On Meesaya Murukku there were decent expectations, thanks to the intriguing title and the soaring popularity of Hip Hop Tamizha post the jallikattu controversy. This film, which has sufficient opportunity for songs, was billed as a combination of fiction and a few incidents from his life. Set in Coimbatore, it tells the enthusiasm and resolve of a young man who is going through a lot of unforeseen challenges in a period of a few years.
Aadithya (Tamizha of Hip Hop) is a dreamer. Art is his life and he is fortunate with a wonderful family and a friend ready-to-do-anything. His father (Vivekh), a realistic and educated man who wants his children to succeed in life, is someone similar to his beliefs and traditions which are close to his soul.
The shot where he comes to little Aadi 's rescue when the latter faces the heat for talking in Tamil in an English medium school is a testimony to it. On the other hand, Aadi's younger brother (Ananth) is aggressive. The story of Aadi and his best friend (Vigneshkanth) simply begins after a few scenes in his school life as they enter engineering college.
Ironically, they find two girls at the college who were their school friends. Aadi falls in for one of them, Nila (Aathmika), and she begins to impress. After a few hiccups in the first year, such as ragging by seniors, coping with the syllabus pressure, etc., things continue to step in his favor.
Nila, too, responds to his feelings positively. Yet history has something special in store for them. The two families' familial status and caste become a hurdle. The couple finds it harder to even meet as college life gets over.
In the meantime, Aadi asks his father to pursue his passion for a year and promises him that if nothing materializes during the period, he would forget his love too. In search of opportunities, he sets out to Chennai, when the future of his romantic life seems bleak. Aadi has put up a decent performance, and as a director, he's made sure the movie has plenty of moments to cheer up for young people.
Vivekh is appropriate in his role as a caring father and has scored in several scenes. Vijayalakshmi, as the mother of the protagonist, and Aathmika all fit in their roles, while it's the college characters who are entertaining enough to make the audience sit and watch throughout. Vigneshkanth and the other characters that occasionally appear are hilarious and apt to support roles. A little more influence over first-half storytelling may have made this a magnificent entertainer on campus.
