Nanna (2011) Movie Review

The story is pretty much straight forward. In a chocolate factory, Krishna (Vikram) has the intellectual capabilities of a five-year-old student. His wife is delivering a baby girl and they die. Krishna is naming her Vennela (Sarah) and being his world's nucleus. He soon admits her to a school where the school correspondent (Amala Paul) is friends with Vennela. The father-in-law of Krishna (Sachin Khadekar), who is a wealthy and strong man, joins the picture and takes Vennela along with him.

Here his search to get his child back continues. Throughout the meantime, he encounters a lawyer, Anuradha (Anushka), who decides to take the matter of Krishna to trial and challenge leading attorney Bashyam (Nasser), who represents the father-in-law of Krishna.

This film's story is partially inspired by the 'I am Sam' Hollywood film. It's got a good line from the plot. Director Vijay is considerate and has his own class. It reflects how he narrated the story and how he blended humor flawlessly. Throughout the film, there is a good feeling. The screenplay is pretty good in the second half. Progress in maintaining curiosity becomes very challenging as the entire second half becomes occupied by court scenes.

There are several scenes that are heart-touching in this film (especially the father-daughter hybrid one). Director Vijay succeeds in narrating the narrative in an entertaining manner without the commercial aspects falling a victim.

The movie is wholly owned by Vikram and the child star, Sarah. While Vikram is at its best, remaining brilliantly true to his character until the very end, with her stunning performance, Sarah surprises everyone, especially in the final court scenes. Anushka always performs her role well yet again proves that she's not just a glam doll and can give excellent performances.

In her part Amala Paul is convincing. The influence of Nasser, Sachin Khadekar, and Surekha Vani is felt. Technically, the film is strong too. Cinematographer Nirav Shah 's research and music director G V Prakash are praiseworthy.

Vikram comes up with another captivating performance as a person with mental challenges. You'll just see the character in this video. He looks really adorable while he plays an awkward character. He is bound to win awards for his outstanding portrayal.

Baby Sarah did a terrific job. At times, she had overshadowed Vikram. A perfect characterization supports her. Anushka in supporting role is pretty sweet. In a few ways, Amala Paul resembles Deepika Padukone and she is fine. Nassar and Sachin Khedekar did justice to this.

Score by GV Prakash Kumar adds to the film's aura. Neither song seems coerced. Nirav Shah Cinematography is excellent. I liked the way you canned the scooter song with slow-mo video. The song which tells stories is highly imaginative. The sets are realistic (especially the interior of the chocolate factory and the court-room). Editing is all well. Dialogs are sometimes sleek and heart-touching. Malla Vijay Prasad and Santosham Suresh producers have risked a little and it 's worth it.

The movie opens up on a dull note but the plot gathers steam as the infant grows up into a tiny baby. The second half is emotionally heavy, which leaves the audience weepy-eyed. All credit for evoking these emotive works to director Vijay. "Nanna" comes as a breath of fresh air, in an ocean of masala type films.
